Supporters Fight Against Administrative Decision to Cancel High School Production of SWEENEY TODD
As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Timberlane Regional High School planned to present a PG version of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd next spring. One parent, Denise Smith, believes, "There's a difference between offending someone and hurting them. This can't hurt anybody. And, if they're offended, just don't attend."
Howard Sherman, an arts writer from NYC, even attended the forum, championing the idea that every student deserves to excel in the arts and tackle challenging works.
At the three hour forum, majority of the attendees were in support of Sweeney Todd. Superintendent Earl Metzler says he's not completely opposed to the play, but that he needs to think of the community as a whole. Metzler is hoping to come to a compromise and a decision should be reached sometime soon.
