Student Blog: Relaxation During Winter Break

How I spent my time away from campus.

Student Blog: Relaxation During Winter Break

If I had to summarize my winter break in one word, I would say “relaxing.” While it was also unproductive for the most part, I finally had time to simply sit around and do nothing, which I consider a treat. Here is a recap of how I relaxed during my winter break.

For starters, I got an iPad for Christmas, which I was super excited to begin using. I’ve wanted one for a while, so I was thrilled to finally get one. The main reason I got one was so I could start taking written notes in my classes instead of typing on my computer. I learned last semester that I absorb information better with written notes, and in trying to improve academically, this was the next step for me.

During the last week of December, I went on vacation. We went to Buffalo to see a hockey game, the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, and Toronto. I enjoyed being in another country: Toronto reminded me of New York City, except they have BeaverTails, which is a huge plus.

I also maintained my social life over break. I met up with different friend groups from home a few times, which was refreshing for my social battery. Some of those friends I hadn’t seen in months, so it was nice to reunite with them while enjoying a nice meal together. In addition, for my friends who are out of town, I stayed in touch through FaceTime. I spent many late nights chatting, which was also a nice way for me to unwind.

Of course, I couldn’t go through all of the break being unproductive, so I took some opportunities to network with professionals in the career I want to pursue, digital marketing. I hope to apply for some summer internships in the coming weeks to gain more real-world experience.

Overall, this winter break wasn’t the most eventful at times, but it was extremely necessary for my mental health. The feeling of finally having a break was so relieving and certainly prepared me for the upcoming semester.
