On Thursday, February 14th The Stolen Chair Theatre Company will present a special Valentine's Day performance of The Man Who Laughs: A Live Silent Film for the Stage. Thursday's performance will include a special pre-show featuring 20's lovesongs by Margi and the Dapper Dots (host of Margi Monday's at Zirzamin) and silent film accompanist, Ben Model (Lincoln Center's Silent Clowns series) accompanying three romantic comedy silent shorts.

There will also be multiple rounds of the game "Make Your Own Title Card" where audience members can write their own title cards to Valentine's themed silent film stills (including special prizes for the winners!). All audience members will receive complimentary popcorn, and "black and white" wine and chocolate. Tickets ($30; $25 students; $20 in 1920's costume) may be purchased online at www.stolenchair.org or by calling 212-868-4444.

Based on Victor Hugo's novel, The Man Who Laughs is performed in the style of a silent film, complete with live piano accompaniment, projected title cards, and vibrant black & white sets. Six live actors will transport the audience to a movie house in 1923, when glamorous stars told larger-than-life stories without a single spoken word. Grab a bag of freshly popped popcorn, take a seat, and watch the hilarious and heartrending story of a man whose face has been carved into a permanent smile, and his desperate quest for the world to take him seriously.
