Stars Take Part in Moveable Arts Workshops, Aug. 17-21

Beginning on August 17th, Broadway stars such as Patrick Wilson (the film of The Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma!), Sutton Foster (Little Women, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Christian Borle (Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Deven May (Bat Boy) and Shoshana Bean (Wicked) will dispense advice and wisdom to theatre students as part of the Moveable Arts workshops, which run through August 21st.

The workshops, which are held in New York City, are described as "retreats" in which aspiring theatre artists can learn from working professionals; in addition to actors, directors, choreographers, dancers, music directors and others will lend their talent and experience to Moveable Arts.  According to the Moveable Arts website, "Students will immerse themselves in a rigorous schedule of classes geared towards making their on-stage careers a reality.  Classes in casting, production, cold reading, choreography, and film and TV audition technique will comprise the comprehensive weekend, amongst other invaluable course instruction, including a symposium with the cast of Spamalot."  Additionally, Moveable Arts will team up wtih performing arts schools around the US to establish workshop programs; teams of instructors will be recruited to travel to schools and lecture on the facts of life upon the wicked stage.

Moveable Arts is co-founded by Adam Pelty, Matthew Stocke and Merri Sugarman.  Pelty and Stocke are both Broadway performers; the former has appeared in Titanic, Steel Pier and The Scarlet Pimpernel and the latter in Titanic, The Full Monty and The Boy from Oz.  Sugarman is a casting director for ABC and Dreamworks.  "Our goal is to offer access at the highest level, and to use our experience as Broadway professionals to teach the practical aspects of making a living in the performing arts," stated Stocke.
