Stage And Screen Stars Siraj Huda And Tony White To Lead Private Read Of KING LAHIRI, A New Adaptation Of KING LEAR

Siraj Huda (The Slap, Elementary), Tony White (Measure for Measure, Much Ado about Nothing), Danish Farooqi (Gandhi, an original musical) and Gulshan Mia (Acquittal, The Mecca Tales) will lead a private industry read of King Lahiri, a modern-day adaptation of King Lear by William Shakespeare.

Playwright Saima Huq is directing the reading, which will be held in the private room of Pondicheri on May 19th in Manhattan.

Set in 2012, King Lahiri centers around Kunal Lahiri, who immigrated from India to Jackson Heights, Queens in 1970, where he and his late wife bought a convenience mart and the apartment above it. In 2012, he wishes to give his real estate to his three grown children, whom he claims is killing him with their selfishness. He wanders off ranting as Hurricane Sandy hit New York City.

King Lahiri will run with Julisa Ceasar, an adaptation of Julius Caesar, as part of Shakespeare from the Block, a new Always Love Lucy Theatre production playing at the Bridge at Shetler Studios July 10th through 15th.

Huq is the founder of Always Love Lucy Theatre, an independent theatre company that casts actors of color and over age 40 in leading roles.
