'Sound of Music' Companion Book Celebrated 12/8 at Barnes & Noble

By: Dec. 05, 2007

On Saturday December 8 from 12 noon to 1:30PM, Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Triangle in New York City (1972 Broadway at 66 Street) will be alive with The Sound of Music.

An event, open to the public, will celebrate the recent release of a lavishly illustrated new book, "The Sound of Music Companion" (Fireside/Simon & Schuster). At this must-attend event for The Sound of Music fans, author Laurence Maslon (Broadway: The American Musical) will be joined by Kym Karath, "Gretl" in the beloved film version of the musical, as well as members of the Salzburg Marionette troup with several of the puppets from their brand-new production of The Sound of Music. Moderating the discussion will be Ted Chapin, President of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.

"The Sound of Music Companion" – From Broadway to the Big Screen, The Sound of Music has found its way into the hearts of millions of people worldwide. Now, the world's most beloved musical has an authorized book, "The Sound of Music Companion," by Laurence Maslon, with a foreword by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Fireside/Simon & Schuster, Inc; November 6, 2007; $40/cloth; 1-4165-4954-4). "The Sound of Music Companion," authorized by The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, documents the incredible and enduring life of Maria von Trapp and the musical version of her story over the last century – from her birth on a train heading to Vienna, to the current smash-hit London production, co-produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and scheduled to open in Toronto next September.   This definitive book has more than 170 illustrations (color as well as black & white), never before seen storyboards from the film, rare von Trapp family photos, and complete lyrics to all the major songs.
