The new R&B/Soul concert, 'Soul Happening', will premiere Friday, May 14th at Williamsburg's Public Assembly. Presented by Iwilla Entertainment & Candice Anitra, the event aims to ignite a soul scene in the borough that beckons the best of fresh, local R&B/soul music. This first installment will feature singer, songwriter, producer Rob Murat and his live band, The Crowd, the raspy soul singer, Candice Anitra, all with DJ OBaH on backup.  The concert will begin at 10:00 pm

Rob Murat is a Queens-born Ivy-League graduate who is emerging as a leader among the ascension of this new breed of artistry with intense vocals, creative songwriting, and contagious production that holds music-lovers captive. Singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur; Rob has been surrounded by music ever since birth. With a childhood immersed in a wide array of musical influences, from Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B to Caribbean, Jazz and Classical, Rob developed a vigorous passion for music relatively early in life. His musical upbringing coupled with his experience as a trumpet soloist, self-taught pianist, impressive composer and vocal arranger has translated into the making of a true artist.

Candice Anitra has been bearing witness to alchemy at work. 'Bark then Bite', her debut album, is the product of progressive chemistry coming together and is an album that demands to be hear. Not only do all of the collaborators lend their artistic genius and decades of experience across musical genres, but Candice proves herself a force who will make a definitive mark on a new decade of music, art and politics. Candice's songwriting, with Joel Hamilton and Dub Trio's embellishment, pushes the envelope with its infusion of funked up rock n roll and with her sexually-seductive politically-progressive lyrical content. Indeed, Candice Anitra defines herself as a singer-songwriter-alchemist.

In 2008, three very unique and multi-talented artists came together and formed a super-group known as The Crowd. The core of The Crowd is a trio that consists of two emcees (Akil Dasan & Randy Mason) and a female vocalist (Adeline). Often compared to the Fugees and The Black Eyed Peas, their music is an exciting new style of Hip-Hop-Pop that draws upon The Crowd's unique skill set. Everyone in The Crowd plays an instrument and they write and co-produce all of their material. At a Crowd show you can expect to see a live demonstration of everything that has made Hip-Hop a global phenomenon: beatboxing, bboying (breakdancing), rapping, singing, hot tracks, live instruments and of course, crowd participation. Fresh, talented and innovative, The Crowd fills up every room with a unique brand of "feel good" energy, whether at a show, in a club or blasting out your living room speakers.

Public Assembly is located at 70 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Tickets are $10.  For more information visit http://www.publicassemblynyc.com/events or call 718-384-4586.
