Second Season Announced for Bklyn Folk/Jazz Concert Series, 'First Acoustics', Kicks Off 10/17
The First Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society in Brooklyn has announced the line-up for First Acoustics, their second annual Folk and Jazz Concert series. The 10-concert series kicks off on Saturday, October 17 with Patty Larkin, and includes popular upcoming artists Livingston Taylor, Tom Rush and Christine Lavin, among others. All concerts in the First Acoustics series will be presented in the Congregation's historic pre-Civil War, neo-gothic Sanctuary, which is located on Pierrepont St. (corner of Monroe Place) in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn. Designed by noted architect of the day, Minard Lefever, and replete with classic Tiffany staiNed Glass windows, the building itself adds to the special atmosphere of the concert series.
Now in its second season, the First Acoustics concert series is the brainchild of Coco and Bruce Wilde, both longtime members of the Congregation and longtime lovers of music. Coco Wilde says, "We are thrilled to be unveiling a brand new stage in the main sanctuary of the church which will improve sight lines for our guests and increase our seating capacity, without sacrificing the intimate atmosphere that is our cornerstone."
The 2009-2010 First Acoustics Series runs as follows: Patty Larkin, October 17; Spirit Ensemble, November 14; Christine Lavin, December 19; New Year's Eve Party featuring The Fort Greene Project, December 31; The Kennedy's, January 23; Valentine's Cabaret featuring Alex Terrier & Andrew Wolper Trio, February 13; Stefan Bauer Voyage, February 17; Madafi Pierre, March 13; Tom Rush, April 10; Livingston Taylor, May 22.
All concerts begin at 8PM except for the Valentine's Cabaret, which will start at 7PM. Tickets are $25-$30 when purchased in advance; $30-$35 at the door, with the exception of the New Year's Eve Party ($75 including dinner and dancing) and Valentine's Cabaret ($50 including dinner). Also offered is a PICK SIX SUBSCRIPTION, which allows ticket buyers to choose any six of the regular concerts. One advantage offered to PICK SIX subscribers is a 10 % discount for any First Acoustics special events, such as the New Year's Eve Party or the Valentines Cabaret.
