With no Broadway run, what will become of the stage adaptation of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME? BroadwayWorld has learned the next steps for the Disney musical from both composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz!

Last week, Alan Menken exclusively told BroadwayWorld that THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME is about to be licensed for amateur regional productions.

"With Hunchback - which I was so proud of, everyone was saying it's going to Broadway - but it's actually going for regional and amateur stock licensing, which is what it was designed for."

In addition, Stephen Schwartz recently revealed the same, saying, "What one wants for any show is for it have a (continued) life." He says the Disney show is one of his favorite works he has ever penned. "The two best shows I've done have never played New York," the Tony Award-winner added, in reference to HUNCHBACK and CHILDREN OF EDEN, a 1991 musical which also got a cast album and regional licensing.

BroadwayWorld also recently reported that the musical would not get a Broadway run, but would record a cast album, featuring the cast from the 2014 Paper Mill Playhouse premiere, which starred Michael Arden, Ciara Renee, and Patrick Page.

Fans are still holding out for a Broadway mount of the musical, though not even Menken does not know if or when it could happen.

"There are so many factors outside of my control about what happens from here. I've trained myself not to think about it. It's too much energy and emotional energy to think about where we'll go next."

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a dramatic retelling of the famous love story on a grand scale, with a lush, emotionally rich score. The musical features a score by Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin).

Inspired by the classic Victor Hugo novel, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME features music by Alan Menken(Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors), and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell,Pippin). The production is an intimate retelling of the famous love story, with a lush, emotionally rich score and a production that will leave you inspired.
