Saatchi Gallery Opens XX: A MOMENT IN TIME Today

London, UK - Today 3rd February 2016, the Saatchi Gallery will open XX: A Moment in Time in the Prints & Originals Gallery.
XX is an exhibition of new works by contemporary female street & graffiti artists. The show will consist of works by a selection of emerging and established artists from around the globe. This will be the first time that some of the artists will have been exhibited in the UK. The exhibition will run alongside the major exhibition of contemporary art by female artists, Champagne Life.
XX showcases a spectrum of artistic talent and seeks to inspire future generations of women artists. Although the disparity between the number of women artists, and their profile, compared to male artists has reduced, a gap still exists. Women remain under-represented within the contemporary street art genre. This might be partly explained by the origins of the genre in territorial mark-making and the routine avoidance of the authorities. However, fundamentally, there are no reasons why any form of contemporary expression should be dominated by one sex or the other. When this domination occurs the great danger is that society does not benefit from the ideas, concepts and perspectives of half the population.
The artists featured in the exhibition include Aiko (Japan/USA), Alice Pasquini (Italy), Caratoes (Belgium/Hong Kong), Crajes(Spain), Elle (USA), Faith 47 (South Africa), Handiedan (Netherlands), Hera (Germany), Hueman (USA), Lora Zombie(Russia), Madamoiselle Maurice (France), Marina Zumi (Argentina), Martha Cooper (USA), Mimi S (Germany), Miss Van(France), Olek (Poland), Sandra Chevrier (Canada), Vexta (Australia) and Zabou (France).
About the Artists:
Aiko - Born in Japan, Aiko was a founding member of the FAILE collective in New York until she commenced a solo career in 2006. Aiko's works typically draw inspiration from Japanese and American pop cultures.
Alice Pasquini - Originating from Rome, Alice works as an illustrator, set designer, and painter. Her works often focus upon the small moments between people and their connections to one another.
Caratoes - Originally from Belgium, the artist currently lives and works in Hong Kong. The artist creates finely crafted works and installations that often hint at melancholia or wistfulness.
Crajes - This duo, consisting of Carla Rendon and Jessica Ruiz, live and work in Spain. Each ended their college studies to create art across various media.

Elle - Based in Brooklyn, USA, this street artist utilizes diverse media to create tags, fills, wheatpastes, sculptures and advertisement takeovers.
Faith 47 - Over the past 15 years works by the artist have appeared in major cities around the world. Works often weave the personal and the political with mythical elements.
Handiedan - This Dutch artist builds complex, sculptural hand-cut collages. Often, her works feature females assembled from layers of disparate graphic material.
Hera - The work of Hera is about storytelling and imagination. Works by the artist have been exhibited worldwide and featured in two books.
Hueman - This American artist has a signature style of bright colours and fragmented abstract portraiture. Works have been produced as large scale murals in LA and San Francisco, as smaller editions and in collaboration with leading brands.

Lora Zombie - The artist was born in a small town in Russia in 1990. The self-taught artist first circulated her work online but it has since been exhibited in Los Angeles, Toronto and New York.
Madamoiselle Maurice - Born in Savoy, the artist lived in Japan for a year after studying architecture. The influence of Japanese design and aesthetics can clearly be seen in the graceful works of paper and thread created by the artist.
Marina Zumi - The artist was an early participant in the experimental street art group 'Expression Sessions' in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Many of her works are inspired by the cosmos, Buddhist philosophy and a love of nature.
Martha Cooper - A pioneering photographer, Martha documented the emergence of graffiti and street culture in New York in the 1970s and 1980s.

Mimi S - With a background as an illustrator and animator, Mimi S now creates digital artwork based upon pencil sketches. The artist explores good & evil and all that lies in between.
Miss Van - The artist is widely regarded as a female pioneer in the street art movement. Originally from Toulouse, France, Miss Van has exhibited extensively across Europe, USA and Asia.
Olek - Crochet is the chosen medium for this Polish artist. Creating works that are sometimes provocative but always full of energy and beauty, this artist challenges perceptions of the genre.
Sandra Chevrier - The artist currently lives in Montreal, Canada. Sandra often uses collage or layers of paint to create images of women that seem to emerge from the surfaces of the works.
Vexta - This Australian artist creates bold and powerful works exploring themes of self-awareness, evolution or the interconnectedness of living organisms.
Zabou - This French artist emerged in 2012 with a reputation for strong, sharp stencil-based works. The artist creates works that challenge conformity and prejudices.

About the Saatchi Gallery
