Robert Cuccioli Toasts Heroes in Pittsburgh Show, July 8
Robert Cuccioli will salute some of the performers he looks up to when he performs his show Hero at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel's scenic second-floor Symphony Room on Friday, July 8 at 9:30 PM as part of Cabaret Pittsburgh's Riverview Series. Accompanied by New York pianist Jan Rosenberg, Cuccioli will sing an eclectic batch of songs in honoring the singers and songs that have touched him, including "Holding Out for a Hero," from the movie Footloose, "C'est Moi," from Camelot, "Larger than Life," from My Favorite Year, Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender," and Mariah Carey's "Hero."Robert Cuccioli is best known for his portrayal of the title role in Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde, for which he earned a 1997 Tony Award nomination, a Drama Desk Award, a FANY Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award. He made his Broadway debut as Javert in Les Miserables and has also appeared in And The World Goes Round, Camelot, and The Rothschilds. Cuccioli's regional credits include The Secret Garden (Sacramento Music Circus), Enter the Guardsman (N.J. Shakespeare Festival), The Pajama Game, Bells Are Ringing, Guys and Dolls and Funny Girl (all at the Pittsburgh CLO); he stars as Captain Von Trapp in their production of The Sound of Music from June 14th to 26th. Cabaret Pittsburgh, founded by Stephanie Riso, is a musical initiative sponsored by the Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre intended to jumpstart a new trend of cabaret-going, provide paid opportunities and a monthly showcase for local singers, and diversify activities in Pittsburgh's Cultural District. Events at La Prima Espresso showcase Pittsburgh's hottest musical and vocal talent in a coffeehouse turned nightclub. Events at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel Riverview Series present veteran singers and established cabaret artists from across the nation. Ann Hampton Callaway (Swing!) will follow up Cuccioli's show with her own on Friday, September 9th. Tony Richards and Stephanie Riso's A Lover's Question, as well as Joyce Breach's cabaret, preceded those of Cuccioli and Callaway.The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel's Symphony Room is located at 107 Sixth Avenue in Pittsburgh's downtown Cultural District.Tickets for Hero are $45, including wine and hors d'oeuvres.
