Rob Ashford to Direct and Choreograph Stage Version of Disney's ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Variety is reporting that Rob Ashford has just been brought on board to direct and choreograph the stage musical version of Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, which he will oversee. The 2010 film, on which the musical will be based, made more than $1 billion worldwide. 

The publication had reported back in March of 2011 that the team would be made up of multiple BEAUTY & THE BEAST vets including set designer Stan Meyer, director Robert Jess Roth, choreographer Matt West, Linda Woolverton bookwriter, Richard D. Zanuck co-executive producing and Basil Twist in talks to create the puppets. 

DUMBO is in the works with a book by Michael Chabon, director Stephen Daldry and choreographer Peter Darling with Bob Crowley designing. 

FATHER OF THE BRIDE is in development as well with Bartlett Sher on board to direct according to the last reports.

London — as Director: Anna Christie (Donmar), A Streetcar Named Desire (Donmar – Olivier nomination, Best Revival), Shrek The Musical; as Director/Choreographer: Parade (Donmar – Olivier nominations, Direction/Choreography); as Choreographer: Evita (Olivier nom.), Guys and Dolls (Olivier nom.), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Olivier nom.), Forum at The National Theatre. Other: 81st Annual Academy Awards (Emmy Award Choreography). Rob is a member of The Executive Board of SDC and a Trustee of The Joyce Theatre.
