Actress / playwright Reneé Flemings tackles William Shakespeare's most powerful female characters in her solo performance "Women, Power & The Bard" on Saturday, October 11th at The Actors Fund Arts Center at the Schermerhorn (160 Schermerhorn Street) in downtown Brooklyn, NY. The performance - part of Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company's Having Their Say solo series - will begin at 8:00pm and tickets, which are $25.00,can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at: http://hts-womenpowerbard.bpt.me/.

In this highly interactive piece, Flemings uses the Bard's characters to construct original material that explores the same themes and issues contemporarily. From Joan of Arc to Queen Margaret to the honor-bound mother of Coriolanus, Renee weaves a tapestry of motives, desires, triumphs and tragedies in this commanding solo performance.

Flemings, who hails from Louisville Kentucky, has been a writer/rider on several of theAtrainplays at the Neighborhood Playhouse with one of her other works Strange Weather selected as a 2004 Eugene O'Neill Conference finalist, She has also served as an educator working with several arts education programs in New York and performed and produced plays at various venues including The Triad, Henry Street Settlement (NYC), The National Black Theatre Festival and The Women's International Theatre Festival (Philadelphia, PA). The multitalented Flemings can also be found providing vocals for local blues band "Renee and The Derelicts."
