The 5th Avenue Theatre's Spotlight Night will showcase the creation of the Broadway-bound musical Princesses on Tuesday, June 7th from 7 to 8:30 PM. The musical will begin its run at the Seattle theatre on August 9th, and will play there until the 28th.

David Zippel, (concept, director, lyricist), Matthew Wilder (composer) and Cheri Steinkellner (book) will share their secrets on bringing a musical to life through three acts: "Putting it Together - Meet the Creators of Princesses," "When A Thing is Wick...the Life and Works of Frances Hodgson Burnett" and "Reflections - The Songs of David Zippel and Matthew Wilder."

A press release describes Princesses as an "innovative musical-within-a-musical with a fresh hip score that blends contemporary pop with traditional theater music." The musical's action bounces between a prep school and its stage, where a musical production of A Little Princess is being staged by a girl with the help of her matinee idol father.

Zippel (with Cy Coleman) won a 1990 Tony for Best Original Score for his City of Angels lyrics. Other Broadway credits include The Goodbye Girl, and he provided lyrical assistance for two of Barbara Cook's Broadway concerts. He provided lyrics to songs in the Disney films Tarzan and Hercules, and with composer Wilder, he penned much of the score of Disney's Mulan.

Wilder has been a folk musician and a backup artist in addition to a composer, and his 1984 debut album I Don't Speak the Language boasted the hit "Break My Stride." He is also an award-winning music producer.

Steinkellner, who wrote Princesses' book with her husband Bill, won Emmys and other awards for executive-producing Cheers. The Steinkellners have also produced the series Bob (with Bob Newhart), and Hope and Glory. They currently write for films and the animated children's show, Teacher's Pet.

There is free entry at the door (if available) on June 7th. To order tickets for Princesses at the 5th Avenue Theatre, visit www.ticketmaster.com.
