Portrait Gallery Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr with Exhibit, 8/24

By:

On Aug. 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. led the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where he delivered his stirring "I Have a Dream" speech and inspired people throughout the world.

Join the Portrait Gallery to celebrate the achievements of Dr. King and to learn more about the civil rights leader at our Family Day presented with the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

  • Tour the exhibition "One Life: Martin Luther King Jr."
  • Hear vocal performances by Kim & Reggie Harris
  • Take part in hands-on activities and family fun!

This program is sponsored in part by the Reinsch Family Education Endowment. The sole media partner for the exhibition is The Atlantic. In 1963, just months before the March on Washington, The Atlantic published what would come to be known as King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail," a handwritten draft he wrote behind bars and sent to the magazine.
