The Monument, "a story of hatred and forgiveness which emerges from the realities of brutal genocidal war," directed by Beverly Brumm, will be presented at the beginning of next year.

Presented by The Clockwork, The Monument will play a two-week limited engagement at Off-Broadway's Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).  Performances begin Friday, January 12 and continue through Sunday, January 28. Opening Night is Tuesday, January 16th at 8 pm.

Written by Colleen Wagner (Sands, Eclipsed), The Monument was the winner of the 1996 Governor General's Award for Drama and tells the story of Stetko, a young soldier convicted of war crimes. "Moments before his execution, a mysterious woman named Mejra appears and offers him a choice: he must either agree to do everything she says for the rest of his life, or face the consequence of death for his actions. Compelling, political, and dark, The Monument explores morality in the shadow of genocide," press notes state.

The Monument premiered at the Canadian Stage Company in a co-production with Necessary Angel Theatre and the Manitoba Theatre Centre 1995, directed by Richard Rose.  It has been performed across Canada and internationally, including at La Mama in Melbourne, in Berlin, and Beijing China; and has been translated into three languages.

The production will star Ramona Floyd (Medea) and Jay Rohloff (The Grapes of Wrath). The production features scenic design by Efran Delgadillo Jr, costume design by Roxie Zeek, lighting design by Benjamin C. Tevelow, and sound design by Reid Hall.

The show will play Tuesday through Saturday at 8 pm with a Saturday matinee at 2 pm through Sunday, January 28.  There are added performances on Sunday, January 14th at 7 p.m., Sunday, January 21st at 2 pm and 7 pm and Sunday, January 28th at 2 pm.

The show is 90 minutes with no intermission, and tickets cost $25 and are now available online at
www.TicketCentral.com or by calling 212-279-4200.  Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Theatre Row Box Office, 11 am to 8 pm daily.
