The incomparable Chita Rivera releases a new solo studio album entitled And Now I Swing on October 13, 2009 from the newly-launched Yellow Sound Label. From classic theater songs to jazz standards, all tracks featured on this new album have received new arrangements recorded by New York's finest musicians, reimagining some of Chita's favorite tunes.
Widely considered as one of the greatest stage actresses of all time, this new album pays homage to Rivera's stage legacy while also displaying her passion for jazz. And Now I Swing features new takes on classic theater songs from shows such as Chicago, Sweet Charity, The Happy Time and The Visit, and revitalizes jazz standards made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and Vera Lynn. And Now I Swing reflects the intimate and warm-natured side of Chita that have become mainstays at her numerous concert appearances. It was her electric performance as Anita in the Broadway premiere of West Side Story (1957) which brought her stardom.
