Photo Flash: Guthrie's 'The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde'

THE SECRET FALL OF CONSTANCE WILDE by Thomas Kilroy and directed by Marcela Lorca opens June 6th at the Guthrie.

Set in a magical world that shifts in time, place and perspective, THE SECRET FALL OF CONSTANCE WILDE brings to light the wife few knew existed. Fresh from her critically acclaimed one-woman show, The Syringa Tree, Sarah Agnew tackles the title role in this revealing play that intertwines fact, fiction and speculation about the relationship between Constance and Oscar Wilde. Matthew Greer, last seen as "Claudius" in the Guthrie's 2006 production of Hamlet, returns to play the famous playwright, who maintained an open and controversial relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas, played by 2007 BFA graduate Brandon Weinbrenner. Using puppets – brought to life by Lauren Asheim (A Christmas Carol, The Pirates of Penzance), Dieter Bierbrauer (As Your Like It), Tyson Forbes (Peer Gynt, 1776) and Elizabeth Grullon (BFA Class of 2009) – the piece examines the woman central to one of the most prominent, prolific and controversial voices in literature, bringing humanity to a search for the honor, truth and peace found in her closure.

Single tickets priced at $24 - $59, opening night $49 - $69. Guthrie Box Office: 612.377.2224. Box Office hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. Tickets may be purchased online at www.guthrietheater.org.
