Photo Flash: Broadway Kids Paint at the Minskoff to Support The Butterfly Project
Broadway Kids came together as a community of young artists in painting ceramic butterflies with The Butterfly Project to show the world that we must never forget how big our voices are and that each one of us makes a difference and we must take care of one another. The event was held on Saturday, January 9 from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Minskoff Theatre, home of Broadway's THE LION KING. Check out photos below!
The Butterfly Project's mission is to paint and display 1.5 million ceramic butterflies to honor and remember each child killed in the Holocaust, fostering education and awareness of the dangers of hate and bigotry in the past and still in our world today, all while creating beautiful art installations that inspire a better world. The Butterfly Project began in 2006 in San Diego, founded by teacher Jan Landau and artist Cheryl Rattner Price, and like a real butterfly has migrated around the world with over 130,000 ceramic butterflies so far connecting people of all faiths and backgrounds in a gentle gesture of hope and remembrance. It is based on the renowned poem The Butterfly, written by Pavel Friedm during his time in Terezin concentration camp.
A documentary film about the project's grass roots gone global journey will be released soon and is entitled NOT THE LAST BUTTERFLY.
Broadway Kids butterflies will be included with the 92nd St Y's upcoming installation this spring at a location to be announced shortly.
Broadway Kids includes cast members from FUN HOME, KINKY BOOTS, MATILDA, LES MISERABLES, THE KING AND I, BILLY ELLIOT and ANNIE.
