The Public Theater presented The Public Sings: A 50th Anniversary Celebration, a one-night-only benefit event showcasing the rich history of musicals produced by The Public Theater, on Monday, January 30th at New York's City Center (located at West 55th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues).

Directed by Tony Award-winner James Lapine (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Into the Woods), the show featured songs from musicals ranging from Hair and A Chorus Line to Runaways, Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, Caroline, or Change, and many others. The benefit featured performances by Zach Braff, Betty Buckley, Lea Delaria, Savion Glover, Eartha Kitt, Idina Menzel, Donna Murphy, Rosie Perez, Natalie Portman, Billy Porter, Meryl Streep, Mary Testa, Destan Owens, Cheyenne Jackson, and Lillias White, among others. The evening was produced by David Binder, with all proceeds to benefit the Public Theater.
