Photo Coverage: 'South Pacific' Performance & CD Signing
Yesterday, June 5th, the cast of SOUTH PACIFIC performed and signed CDs at Barnes and Nobles Lincoln Triangle. Stars Kelli O'Hara, Paulo Szot,Matthew Morrison,Danny Burstein, Loretta Ables Sayre were on hand along with guest host Laurence Maslon (author, The South Pacific Companion). The cast performed to a standing room only crowd. Laurence Maslon introduced each song with some trivia, which you'll have to read the book to find out. Matthew Morrison performed "Younger Than Springtime," followed by Loretta Ables Sayre singing "Bali Ha'i." Next up was Paulo Szot singing "Some Enchanted Evening," and last, but not least, was Kelli O'Hara who sang "A Wonderful Guy," and got into character by kicking off her shoes. The cast then signed CDs and books for a crowd that snaked out the door of the performance space at Barnes and Noble.
Based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacific, Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples -- US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat -- and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices.The Lincoln Center Theater production of this treasured American musical, directed by Bartlett Sher, has earned 11 Tony® Award nominations and 5 Drama Desk Awards.
