Patti LuPone performed her one-woman concert of classic torch songs May 22nd at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beamount Theatre.
The concert, which LuPone previously performed at Carnegie Hall, was conceived and directed by Hairspray's Scott Wittman. The concert serves to promote Patti LuPone's new album, "The Lady with the Torch," available now on Ghostlight Records.
A longtime favorite among Broadway enthusiasts for her appearances on both the musical and dramatic stages, Patti LuPone is currently thrilling audiences with her Tony-nominated performance as Mrs. Lovett in John Doyle's acclaimed staging of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, now playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Patti LuPone has essayed such legendary roles as Eva Peron in Evita, for which she won a Tony Award, Fantine in the original London production of Les Miserables (Olivier Award, the first ever awarded to an American actor), and Norma Desmond in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. Ms. LuPone has also performed on Broadway in The Robber Bridegroom, the 1984 revival of Oliver!, Anything Goes (Tony nomination), That Old Neighborhood, Master Class, and Noises Off. Her extensive credits elsewhere on the New York stage include the Encores! productions of Can-Can and Pal Joey, while her appearances on regional stages include turns in the Ravinia Festival's productions of Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George, Anyone Can Whistle, and the upcoming Gypsy, as well as a concert version of Marc Blitzstein's Regina at Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center. Her film and television work includes the long-running series "Life Goes On," the final season of "Oz," as well as the films Summer of Sam and City By the Sea.
