On Monday night, November 10, Tony Award winner Billy Porter was honored at the NYMF 10th Anniversary Gala, presented at the Hudson Theatre. The special event also celebrated 10 years of creating and nurturing new musical theatre under the leadership of NYMF Co-Founder Isaac Robert Hurwitz. Hosted by Susan Blackwell ([title of show]), the NYMF 10th Anniversary Gala show featured appearances by Lillias White(Fela!, The Life, Dreamgirls), Christian Borle ("Smash", Peter and the Starcatcher), Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone),Leslie Odom, Jr. (Leap of Faith), Telly Leung (Rent, "Glee"),Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show]), Jeremy Shamos (Glengarry Glen Ross), Christopher Fitzgerald (Chicago, Finian's Rainbow),Hunter Bell ([title of show]), Larry Pressgrove ([title of show]),Jeremy Kushnier (Jersey Boys), Tyler Maynard (Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia), Steve Rosen (Spamalot), David Rossmer (Peter and the Starcatcher) and many more.
Porter was chosen for his extensive contribution to the field of musical theatre as a singer, actor, writer and director both on and Off-Broadway. His recent performance in Kinky Boots was met with critical acclaim and garnered him the Tony Award for the Best Actor in a Musical in 2013.
