Pen Parentis Announces ALUMNI NIGHT 12/13

On Tuesday, December 13th at 7pm, Pen Parentis returns to the Libertine Library at Gild Hall (a Thompson Hotel at 15 Gold Street in Lower Manhattan) with its annual ALUMNI NIGHT. Literary luminaries John Burnham Schwartz, Simon Van Booy, and Helen Schulman are scheduled to read and sign books, while alumni readers from the past six seasons of programming are invited to show up as "mystery guests." A $25 suggested donation gets you in the door, wine flows liberally, and giveaways are plentiful. Don't miss this annual fundraiser, which raises money for the Pen Parentis Writing Fellowship for New Parents, presented each September to a worthy writer who has to support young kids.
Hosted by prize-winning authors M. M. De Voe and Arlaina Tibensky of Pen Parentis, this reading series, wraps up its sixth successful season featuring various authors who balance successful careers with active family lives at home. Come early to get a good seat-plenty of wine at the private, upstairs bar. Books vended by Bluestockings. Literary door prizes galore!John Burnham Schwartz is the author of the acclaimed novels BICYCLEDAYS, RESERVATION ROAD, & CLAIRE MARVEL AND The CommonER, which was made into a motion picture based on his screenplay. Helen Schulman is the author of five novels, including P.S. which was made into a film starring Laura Linney and Topher Grace, and winner of a Sundance Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, and a New York Foundation for the Arts grant. Her novel A BEAUTIFUL LIFE was recently featured as a New York Times Book Club pick. Originally from rural Wales, Simon Van Booy's essays have appeared in the New York Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, and on NPR. Winner of the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, he presents his debut novel, EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL BEGAN AFTER.
