Page 73 Announces Eliza Clark As 2010 Playwriting Fellow

After reviewing over 250 applications from across the country, PAGE 73, a non-profit theater company that develops and produces exclusively the work of early-career playwrights who have yet to receive substantial production opportunities in New York City, has announced that Eliza Clark is the 2010 P73 PLAYWRITING FELLOW. As part of her fellowship year, Eliza will receive a $5000 cash grant and will work on DEAD CHILDREN, a new play about a town without children and one family trying to pull together to bring back the dead.

Launched in 2003 and awarded each year to an early-career playwright who has not received wide public recognition or production opportunities in New York City, the P73 Playwriting Fellowship provides year-long development support to one early-career playwright annually. In addition, the recipient of the P73 Playwriting Fellowship receives a cash prize of $5,000. Past recipients of the P73 Playwriting Fellowship are Kirsten Greenidge, Quiara Alegría Hudes, Jason Grote, Krista Knight, Tommy Smith and Heidi Schreck. Quiara Alegría Hudes's Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue, which was developed as part of the P73 Playwriting Fellowship in 2005 and produced by Page 73 in 2006, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama in 2007. Jason Grote's 1001, which was developed in part with the support of the P73 Playwriting Fellowship and produced in 2006 by Page 73 under the direction of Ethan McSweeny, recently appeared on Time Out New York's "Top Ten Theater List for 2007".

Eliza Clark's plays include EDGEWISE, RECALL, and PUPPY. Her work has been developed at Manhattan Theatre Club, the Studio at Cherry Lane Theatre, Page 73, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Provincetown Playhouse, The New York International Fringe Festival, and Yale University. She received a commission from the Yale O'Neill Studio in 2006. Ms. Clark is a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre's emerging writers group, Youngblood, where her short plays can often be seen in the Youngblood monthly brunch series. She was a member of the P73's 2008-2009 Interstate 73 writers group. She co-created, wrote, and performed in the Internet sitcom, INCONVENIENT MOLLY. She graduated from Yale University in 2007 and is currently living in Los Angeles writing for a new AMC show, RUBICON.

PAGE 73 develops and produces the work of early-career playwrights who have yet to receive substantial production opportunities in New York City or wide public acknowledgment. PAGE 73's programs usher the work of early-career playwright from initial draft to production-ready script and introduce new and untried writers to New York City audiences and other non-profit theaters and producers. PAGE 73's principal programs are: the P73 Playwriting Fellowship, a year-long program that provides financial, career and development support to one playwright; "Interstate 73", a writing group composed of 8 early-career playwrights who meet regularly to discuss and work on their new plays; the Page 73 Summer Residency @ Yale, a week-long summer residency on the Yale campus for three to four early-career playwrights; and a world or New York premiere of a new play by an early-career playwright. Playwrights and writers who have worked with Page 73 are, among many, Peter Ackerman, Janet Allard, Michael Friedman, Karen Hartman, Julia Jordan, Krista Knight (2007 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Dan LeFranc, Kenneth Lin, Kirsten Greendige (2004 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Jason Grote (2006 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Quiara Alegria Hudes (2005 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Heidi Schreck (2009 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Tommy Smith (2008 P73 Playwriting Fellow), Victoria Stewart & Gary Sunshine. PAGE 73 developed and produced the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize finalist "Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue" by Quiara Alegria Hudes (directed by Davis McCallum) and produced the New York premiere of "1001" by Jason Grote (directed by Ethan McSweeny) (TIME OUT - NY Top 10 2007). Last year, PAGE 73 produced with Soho Rep "Sixty Miles to Silver Lake" by Dan LeFranc (directed by Anne Kauffman). In the fall fo 2009, Page 73 produced with New Georges the world premiere of "Creature" by Heidi Schreck (directed by Leigh Silverman).
