Duo Multicultural Arts Center (DMAC) is pleased to present Studio Visits with works by Seth Ruggles Hiler, as part of PRIDE @ DMAC (June 16-22). The opening reception for Studio Visits will take place June 16, 2013 from 4-7PM at Duo Multicultural Arts Center. Reservation is required at Smarttix.com.

Studio Visits features over 30 paintings, 2X3' & 3X4'. All works employ a classical aesthetic sensibility, underscored with a contemporary use of color and composition. Hiler strives to go beyond creating likeness or surface description by expressing a momentary relationship to the subject. His paintings are informed by a collection of past experiences that foster intimate exchange.

Studio Visits is the second visual art exhibition to open at DMAC in 2013, shortly after the debut of mixed-media work Confessions of a Cuban Sex Addict (running through June 21). "Studio Visits will be a momentous initiation to a robust week of PRIDE @ DMAC. We are thrilled to be showcasing visual art of such sincerity and vibrance, mirroring the upcoming week of spirited performance and film," says DMAC's Artistic Director / Curator, Michelangelo Alasa'.

Representing a longtime champion of arts in the East Village, DMAC is proud to celebrate Pride and queer culture through a diverse range of programming for PRIDE @ DMAC. The Arts Center continues to push boundaries of innovative art incubation and has commenced a new initiative to feature visual art in performative and salon-style atmosphere.

Hiler received a BFA in painting from Syracuse University in 2002 and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2005. He maintains studios in Boonton and Montclair, New Jersey and is the Visual and Performing Arts Professor and Arts Coordinator at Bard High School Early College in Newark, NJ. Hiler's work is exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at galleries and institutions throughout the North East and in Ontario, Canada, including the Morris Museum in New Jersey, New York City's Salmagundi Club, and Syracuse University.

Duo Multicultural Arts Center (DMAC) - located in the heart of the East Village at 62 East 4th Street - has a rich and diverse history. Originally built in 1889, the space has hosted numerous endeavors by notable artists, including John Philip Sousa and Andy Warhol. In 2012, Duo Multicultural Arts Center, in conjunction with Rod Rodgers Dance Studio, won the prestigious Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award, issued by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Today, DMAC operates space for artistry and innovation, debuting new work in dance, visual art, film, theater, and music.
