On the Square Productions to Present THE MINERVAE in Athens Square Park, 7/13-7/29

On the Square Productions presents Steven Bost's original piece THE MINERVAE this July in Athens Square Park in Astoria. This new production is part of OtSP's Astoria Free Theatre Project and will be presented to the public for free at all performances. The production will be directed by Stephen Kaliski. Creative team and cast will be announced in the coming weeks.

Synopsis: Set in the dying days of the Roman Empire, THE MINERVAE tells the story of one mythological goddess who refuses to move over for the fashionable new "cult" of Christianity. Jilted, Minerva sets out to re-convert the converted. Standing in her way are the schemes of the other Olympians: bitter Vulcan, volatile Mars, ambitious Apollo, and the enigmatic Diana. It's a titanic clash of faith vs. revelation, with mortal Man caught in between.

The production will be directed by Stephen Kaliski, who was the Directing Fellow on the current Broadway production of Evita, directed by Michael Grandage; for Classic Stage's Three Sisters directed by Austin Pendleton; and for The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Little Eagles directed by Roxana Silbert. Stephen also directed the Gallery Players production of Knock Knock; several projects for Page 121 Productions including Alcestis Sequel, His Minute Hand (Hollywood Fringe/45 Bleecker), and West Lethargy (Edinburgh/59E59/FringeNYC). 

Steven Bost has written numerous plays, most notably The Googie Bears (Grand Prize winner at the American Theatre Coop), Pamplona or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Running of the Bulls, and Civil War at the Screeching Eagle Monument.

Performances of The Minervae are free to the public and run July 13th-29th with an opening on July 16th. Athens Square Park is located on 30th St. and 30th Ave. in Astoria, Queens.
