Epic Theatre Center, a theatre company that employs artists to work simultaneously on the stage and in the classroom, has announced that its newest production, No Child..., a solo play written and performed by Nilaja Sun, and directed by Hal Brooks (Thom Pain) will add ten additional performances due to popular demand and critical acclaim.

The show, originally scheduled through June 4th, will now play 10 additional performances from June 8th through June 18th at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd St.).

"No Child... is a tour-de-force look into the New York City Public Education system by the acclaimed teaching-artist and solo-performer, Ms. Sun, who transforms into the teachers, students, parents, administrators, janitors, and security guards who inhabit our public schools every day and are shaping the future of America," state press notes.

"Epic Theatre Center commissioned the development of No Child... as a result of Sun's unique work in one New York City's toughest schools, Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, where Epic maintains an extensive arts-ed residency. Martin Luther King Jr. High School was specifically created in 1972 as a fully integrated public school that brought non-white students into the Lincoln Center community. In his new book, Shame of the Nation, Jonathan Kozol sites MLK as a perfect example of 'apartheid schooling' as it currently enrolls no white students."

About No Child..., Sun said, "I created this piece to be a snapshot from the trenches, something entertaining and provocative that'll get people talking about the state of our public schools in a new way." Sun's New York credits include Einstein's Gift, Time and The Conways (Epic Theatre Center), The Cook (Intar), The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl! (Summer Play Festival), and "Law and Order- SVU." As a solo performer, her credits include Blues for a Gray Sun, La Nubia Latina, Black and Blue, Insufficient Fare, Due to the Tragic Events of..., and Mixtures. She is a Princess Grace Award winner and a native New Yorker.

Epic Theatre Center is the New York-based, Obie Award-winning company dedicated to nurturing civic-minded artists and audiences. Established on September 11, 2001, the company was galvanized to create an organization "that embraces theatre as a way to empower diverse voices and inspire social change. Epic's signature, highly innovative, and far-reaching education programs in public schools throughout New York and the Northeast are nationally recognized."

The added performances will be on Thursday, June 8, 8pm; Friday, June 9, 8pm; Saturday, June 10, 2pm & 8pm; Sunday, June 11, 3pm; Thursday, June 15, 8pm; Friday, June 16, 8pm; Saturday, June 17, 2pm & 8pm; and Sunday, June 18, 3pm.
