A new stage and exciting adaptation of the epic novel 'Motke Thief' by Sholem Asch, one of the great Yiddish language novelists, who wrote about the Jewish diaspora life from a nonconventional point of view.

Motke grew up penniless, when his only friends were the town's dogs. He joins a travelling circus for a hot meal, remains at the bottom of the ladder, and them decides to rebel his fate and create a new life for him. Motke steals the identity of one of the circus people and runs away with his love.

In the big city of Warsaw the poor child becomes a gangster who dominates the underworld.
Everything changes when Motke meets a daughter of a well established family, Hana. In the goal of winning her Motke is willing to give up the crime empire he created and abandon his previous love, only soon enough he discovers that it's not so easy to escape from the past.

The play King of the Dogs takes a glance at the dark corners of the Jewish diaspora life, at the violence and passion of them, and it raises the eternal question- can a man correct his own life?
