New Musical MURPHY'S LAW Plays Dixon Place Tonight

Dixon Place presents a one-night-only concert reading of the road-trip musical comedy Murphy's Law with book, music, and lyrics by Andy Nagraj and Jonathan Spivey tonight, Feburary 5th at 7:30 PM on the Main Stage. Broadway regulars Aaron Galligan-Stierle and Johnny Kinnaird along with Helen Hayes Award Winner Diana Huey are among the six-person cast.

Joining Galligan-Stierle (The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, How The Grinch Stole Christmas), Kinnaird (Million Dollar Quartet) and Huey (Signature Theatre's Miss Saigon) are Carolynne Warren (national tour of I Love Lucy Live), Jordan Barbour (international tour of The Suit), and Deb Radloff (Classic Stage Company's The Caucasian Chalk Circle).

Here's how Dixon Place bills the musical: "Everyman Dave Spring finds his job just a memory, his parents are divorcing, and his fiancee is cheating on him with another man. When everything that can go wrong does go wrong, the solution appears obvious: a cross-country road trip. Miles whiz by, colorful characters collide, and hilarity ensues as Dave contemplates what to do when life hands him a fork in the road. Featuring a toe-tapping score that spans folk, funk, and everything in between, this road-trip musical comedy will split your sides and leave you humming your way out of the theatre."

Murphy's Law received developmental workshops in San Diego, California; Cedar City, Utah; Richmond, Virginia; and Holland, Michigan. The score will be featured this March in Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh's Hot Metal Musicals, the non-profit's inaugural showcase of new musical theatre work.

Co-authors Nagraj and Spivey originally wrote Murphy's Law as fellow undergraduates at the University of Richmond. Both professional actors, Mr. Spivey appeared on Broadway in Act One directed by James Lapine at Lincoln Center and has an MFA in acting from Old Globe/University of San Diego. Mr. Nagraj is former theatre faculty at University of Pittsburgh and has an MFA in acting from University of Delaware/PTTP.

Dixon Place is a New York City-based non-profit organization "founded in 1986 to provide a space for literary and performing artists to create and develop new works in front of a live audience." Their mission is "to support and nurture the development of new work and work in progress from diverse artists."
