This monthly music series is being introduced and hosted by FRIGID New York at Horse Trade and music event producer Salli Squitieri bringing both up and coming and renowned performing artists of all genres from near and far to these two historically rich funky chic unique East Village flavored theaters. With so many of the smaller venues disappearing this series not only helps to fill a void by creating a new forum for musicians, but likewise offers the regional clientele the experience of an off the beaten path, nostalgic and intimate music sojourn. Many of the performers who are eager to be part of this series and help kick start it are specifically customizing their shows and designing performances just for this series.

Three Pints Shy: An Irish Evening of Humor, Stories & Song

Tuesday, June 21 @ 7pm $12

UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place)

Founded in 2003, THREE PINTS SHY has become a raucous pub band, updating and reinvigorating the Celtic music so beloved all around the world. Stemming from the traditions of Tommy Makem and The Clancy Brothers, THREE PINTS SHY first appeared at the New York Renaissance Festival in Tuxedo, NY. The group members include David Anthony, David Mikovsky, Seth Morgan, Jonathan Siregar, and Robert Lee Taylor. Preferring the enjoyment of music and drinking, the group is influenced by Irish drinking songs. THREE PINTS SHY performs with a high-energy style, creating an appeal to a younger audience, creating a fanatical audience reaction that grows with every song. But they are not beyond the touching ballads of the Emerald Isle, enamoring their fans with their gentle harmonies.

Benson & Leinweber

July 21 @ 8:30pm $15

UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place)

Benson and Leinweber have been wowing crowds wherever they have played. They are the duo made up of Dave Benson and David Leinweber, two outstanding guitarists, songwriters, and performers. Veterans of the blues, rock and folk scenes, the two form a powerhouse duo featuring excellent harmonies, skillful guitar-interplay and well-selected songs - not to mention lots of fun and energy. When the two get together, they can really make the sparks fly. Their repertoire ranges from traditional music of Appalachia and the British Isles, to Spanish ballads, to folkadelic rock and acoustic blues. Many of their songs tell great stories and feature distinctive idioms of guitar playing and songwriting. Their performances intersperse smoking guitar work and vocals with joke-cracking and occasional commentaries.

Marc Black: Life...One Song at a Time

Wednesday, July 27 @ 9pm $20

UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place)

Just 6 years old, living in Jacksonville Florida, Marc heard Elvis on the Studebaker car radio. He turned to his Mom and said...'What is that'? Not who is that, but what is that? From that moment, rock rhythms and rock songs became his obsession and the mirror to his life's journey. New chords, new rhythms, new ideas... each song leading to the next. From 'I Can't Stand to Look at your Ugly Face', the one that got him suspended at high school when he dedicated it to the faculty; to 'The Moon Whispered', the tender song he wrote for his Dad the night before he died. Marc has chosen a bagful of these tunes to share in this intimate theater on the lower east side. The show will feature Marc and his guitar (Claudette), which he bought new in 1968. They've got some tales to tell. So hang on to your seat as Marc leads us through his life one song at a time... and enjoy the musical ride.

Elliott Levin: Peace, Poetry & Music

Thursday, August 4 @ 10:30pm $15

The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street)

Elliott Levin's musical and poetic inspirations are drawn form the roots of American forms of jazz and blues (along with many other international, cultural, folk, and classical forms) to grow into the more expansive techniques of the extended compositional and improvisational directions of modern innovators such as Cecil Taylor, Sun RA, Frank Zappa, and Don Van Vliet, to cite a few sources of inspiration. For the past 25 years, he has been intimately involved in the integral interplay of the language of music, and the music of language.
