New Group's Prime of Miss Jean Brodie Announces Full Cast

The cast for The New Group¹s upcoming revival of "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" by Jay Presson Allen and directed by New Group Artistic Director Scott Elliott, is as follows:

"The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" will play at The New Group @ Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street) this fall.  Exact dates TBA. Cynthia Nixon--who recently won a Tony for her last Broadway turn in Rabbit Hole--will star in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, which will be revived by the New Group in September.

The play, which was adapted by the late Jay Presson Allen from the Muriel Spark novel, will be directed by New Group artistic director Scott Elliott, who has also helmed Abigail's Party and Hurlyburly for the New Group and who was more recently represented on Broadway by The Threepenny Opera. Set in Edinburgh, Scotland from 1931 to 1936, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, concerns a complex and charismatic girls' school teacher (with Fascist leanings and an unconventional love life) and her relationship with her students, whom she grooms and influences.

Nixon previouslyappeared on Broadway in The Women, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Indiscretions (Tony nomination), Angels in America, The Heidi Chronicles, Hurlyburly and The Real Thing (simultaneously) and The Philadelphia Story. She became internationally known as Miranda on TV's "Sex and the City."

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie opened on Broadway on January 16th, 1968 and ran for 379 performances. Zoe Caldwell won a Tony Award for her performance in the title role, while Maggie Smith won an Oscar for her work in the 1969 film version, which was directed by Ronald Neame.

The New Group will conclude its 2005-2006 season with Seth Zvi Rosenfeld's Everything's Turning Into Beautiful, starring Daphne Rubin-Vega.
