New Focus Recordings Releases Unraveling Beethoven from Nicholas DiEugenio and Mimi Solomon - Release Show Announced!

New Focus Recordings presents the release of Unraveling Beethoven, the exceptional new album from violinist Nicholas DiEugenio and pianist Mimi Solomon out on Friday, October 26th. Unraveling Beethoven ushers Beethoven into the 21st century, with unique sensibilities to complement and transform his timeless violin sonatas with new works created by visionary composers Tonia Ko, David Kirkland Garner, Jesse Jones, Robert Honstein, and Allen Anderson.
In approaching the ten Beethoven violin sonatas as a whole, Nicholas and Mimi have commissioned the composers to respond to specific pairings of sonatas in the context of various musical fabrics - the sonic threads that are woven together by a composer to produce a musical work's aural tapestry. They have asked these composers to pull on a "loose thread" of Beethoven's and reweave it. Originally intended to be included in a cycle of five concerts consisting of two Beethoven sonatas paired with one new work, they have been inspired by their work with these five wonderful composers, as well as many of the listeners at the premieres of these various works, to send these new pieces out into the world together on one album, standing apart from (but very much in relation to) Beethoven. In this way, one could consider these new works as distinct, unique mushrooms, having nonetheless all sprouted from the same Beethovenian mycelium.
The DiMenna Center for Classical Music will host the album release show for Unraveling Beethoven on Saturday, October 27th at 7:30pm. Nicholas DiEugenio and Mimi Solomon will perform complete works from their new recording. Admission is free.
