A new Australian theatre group--primed to be the country's only national musical theatre company--has announced its inaugural 2007 season.

According to Variety, Kookaburra will present three musicals: Stephen Schwartz's 1972 fable Pippin, Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking 1970 musical Company and Adam Guettel's 1996 musical drama Floyd Collins.

The productions, state the article, will first be staged in Sydney but will branch out as international tours: "
Seasons in other capitals likely will be remounted using local performers and resources to keep costs low."

There will also be a developmental division of Kookaburra (called The Nest) that will workshop new Australian musicals, which would then possibly be fully staged by the company.

No casting or creative teams have been announced for the three shows.
