The American dancer and choreographer Bobbi Jene Smith, having returned to New York City after a decade in Israel performing with Batsheva Dance Company, will offer the NYC premiere of her stirring work Harrowing, as part of Chez Bushwick's 2Night Show March, curated by Celia Rowlson-Hall. She will perform the duet with David Harvey, March 17 & 18, 7:30pm, at Center for Performance Research (aka CPR, 361 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211). Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 at http://chezbushwick.net/, or at the door for $15.

Comprising seven scenes and featuring multimedia projection, Harrowing poetically investigates the relationships we make and leave behind. The work conjures the effects of those emotional connections in one's life and body. Evoking the dual meanings of the word "harrow"-both a noun designating an instrument used to turn over and smooth soil and a verb meaning to cause distress-Smith's choreography deftly figures beauty and pitfalls of nostalgia and romance.

Bobbi Jene Smith is from Ames, Iowa. She is an alumna of the Juilliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. She moved to Tel Aviv in 2005 to join the Batsheva Dance Company under the artistic direction of Ohad Naharin and remained a member of the company until 2014. She has worked and collaborated with a variety of artists around the world including Sharon Eyal, Celia Rowlson-Hall, Punchdrunk's Sleep No More and Martha Clarke, in addition to Naharin. She is a certified Gaga teacher and has taught the Naharin's repertory in schools and universities across the U.S. She has three works in progress: Harrowing, A Study on Effort and Arrowed.
