Nettles Artists Collective and East 3rd Productions have joined creative forces to bring The Tennessee Williams Project to the general public. The Tennessee Williams Project aims to engage citizens with the writer's work through free readings which are followed by an engaging and democratic post-reading discussion exploring the relevance of Williams' work in contemporary society.

The collaboration will kick off with a reading of The Rose Tattoo as part of the Nettles Artists Collective's Salon Series. The Salon Series exist in the spirit of 17th century French salon gatherings which aim to inspire, provoke and, most of all, engage through conversation.

The Rose Tattoo opened on Broadway in 1951 and it is a play about a recently widowed Italian/American woman who has fallen into deep despair. However, The Rose Tattoo is also a psychological study of being stuck in one's own sense of time, regardless of its affect on those around us. Furthermore, the play also explores the role of religion in moments of deep mourning and depression. The Tennessee Williams Project attempts to engage the artists and the audience to ask questions around these themes in an Open Conversation. Ricardo Riethmuller, director of East 3rd Productions, states: "Readings always close with two general questions: What are the common themes throughout Tennessee Williams' body of work? Are Tennessee Williams' plays still prevalent and financially viable to be produced into today's (theater) world?"

The event will be held at Nettles Artists Collective's current residence, Punto Space, an event and performance space in midtown Manhattan, on September 27th at 6pm.

Nettles Artists Collective's mission: to imbue the American art scene with globally diverse voices and multidisciplinary collaborations by providing a platform for the performing and visual arts.

East 3rd Productions' mission: to facilitate art anytime, anywhere, any way, empowering artists to create multidisciplinary work which communicates across social, cultural, and political lines. East 3rd Productions seeks out innovative, intellectual, and exciting work, nurturing the creative impulses of its permanent members, collaborators, and future theater and film artists.
