Emmy-winning broadcasters Bill Webb and Curt Gowdy, Jr. of SNY, the TV home of the New York Mets, will give fans a rare inside look at the art and craft of televised baseball during a special program at Museum of the Moving Image on Tuesday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m.

The program, held in the new theater of the just-reopened Moving Image, celebrates the inauguration of an updated and improved display within the Museum's core exhibition, re-creating the environment of a TV control room. The display allows visitors to see and hear Webb as he directs SNY's broadcast of an inning of the June 10, 2010 game between the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres.

The January 25 program, titled "The Art of Televised Baseball," will feature Webb and Gowdy in conversation with Museum chief curator David Schwartz. Webb is widely considered to be the premier baseball director in the business. Gowdy is the award-winning senior vice president of production and executive producer for SNY, and the son of legendary broadcaster Curt Gowdy. Together, they will discuss the rapid-fire decision-making and the technology needed to create a seamless broadcast.

"Bill Webb is a legend in the business," said David Schwartz. "It is amazing to see him at work in the control room, putting together a smart, entertaining broadcast on the fly." A televised baseball game is an unpredictable, multicharacter drama that unfolds in real time. The director and production team make thousands of split-second decisions, cutting between more than a dozen camera angles, and incorporating onscreen graphics and the announcer commentary to make an entertaining, involving show.

On the night of the January 25 program, the core exhibition Behind the Screen will be open during the hour before the program so visitors may view the display "Editing Live Television."

Tickets to "The Art of Televised Baseball" are $20 for the general public, $10 for Museum members; and free for Members at Silver Screen level and above. Tickets may be ordered by phone at 718.777.6800, or online at http://movingimage.us.

In addition to broadcasting more than 120 Mets games a season, SNY is the TV home of the New York Jets and the Big East Conference, and the source for all things New York sports.
