Met star Flanigan to join Yazbek for May 22nd concert

Metropolitan Opera Star Lauren Flanigan Added to David Yazbek's May 22nd Benefit Concert for Riverspace and Riverkeeper
Rock/pop artist David Yazbek has confirmed that Metropolitan Opera star Lauren Flanigan has been added to his May 22nd Benefit Concert for Riverspace and Riverkeeper. Yazbek's other special guests for the evening will be singer-songwriter Nellie McKay and Tony Award Winner Norbert Leo Butz.Flanigan is "a commanding soprano, who made headlines during the Metropolitan Opera's 1992-93 season by substituting for an ill Aprile Millo in Verdi's I Lombardi with no stage rehearsal and opposite Luciano Pavarotti, going on to repeat the performance six more times, one of which was televised."
The upcoming Benefit will feature songs from Yazbek's acclaimed CD, 'Evil Monkey Man,' which has been universally praised for its "remarkably well-crafted images" and "dark, often troubling" songs. When Yazbek presented the material at Lincoln Center a few weeks ago, The New York Times called the show "A Woozy Thrill Ride on a Volcano's Edge," and raved: "The songwriter David Yazbek is a daredevil juggler catching spiked pins in the traveling carnival of his imagination." The Lincoln Center concert featured McKay and Flanigan as special guests as well – so it's safe to say that the Nyack Benefit on May 22nd will be – in Yazbek's words – "an extremely weird show."
Yazbek has confirmed additional tour dates as well: On May 20th, Yazbek and long-time band His Warmest Regards will appear in concert at World Café Live in Philadelphia. On May 30th, they will play Joe's Pub in New York City. On May 31st, they'll play Café 939 in Boston.
