A memorial service for J.C. Sheets, the actor-turned-dresser who died unexpectedly February 4 at the age of 53, will be held on Monday, April 9th at 4PM at The Majestic Theatre (247 West 44th Street).  The event will be open to the public.

Sheets spent his career working two Cameron Mackintosh–produced smash musicals, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera. He joined the Broadway company of Les Miz in 1988 and stayed, on and off, for eight years. He would go on to fill 12 different ensemble roles, beginning by playing the role of Brujon and ultimately playing Jean Valjean more than 300 times on Broadway.

Following his stint with Les Miz, he became a star dresser in charge of the costumes worn by the actor portraying The Phantom, going on to dress such performers as Hugh Panaro and current star Howard McGillin.  Along with actor and long-time Make-up Supervisor Thelma Pollard, he was greatly responsible for the long process of transforming the leading man into the title character, and he worked at the show until his death.

In addition to Les Miz, Sheets acted Off-Broadway, in many Regional Theatre productions and in five National Tours, including Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan, Annie Get Your Gun with Debbie Reynolds, and Camelot with Richard Harris.
