Broadway star Liz McCartney will take center stage as tone-deaf society star Florence Foster Jenkins in the George Street Playhouse's upcoming staging of Souvenir.

She will be joined by Jim Walton as Cosme McMoon, Jenkins' accompanist.

The play with music, by Stephen Temperley, will be presented at the New Brunswick, NJ theatre from February 27th through March 25th, with an opening night set for March 2nd.  Anders Cato will direct.

"This recent Broadway hit is a laugh-out-loud love letter to cult favorite Florence Foster Jenkins, a widowed society matron who followed her dreams all the way to Carnegie Hall in 1944.   Her out-of-tune, but passionately sung renditions of classical repertoire were legendary – earning her both sold-out recitals and the title 'the worst singer who ever lived.'  Lovingly told through the memories of her accompanist this charming comedy is filled with music and is a true delight!," state George Street Playhouse notes on the show.

Souvenir was originally a hit at the York Theatre Company before transferring to Broadway in November of 2005 for a run of 10 previews and 70 performances.  Both productions starred Tony Award-winner Judy Kaye.

McCartney's Broadway credits include Mamma Mia!, Taboo (originating the role of Big Sue), Dance of the Vampires, Phantom of the Opera (as Carlotta), Thoroughly Modern Millie and Les Miserables.  McCartney also appeared in the critically-acclaimed Encores! production of Carnival. Regional credits include Paint Your Wagon, The Hired Man, Into the Woods, as well as The Rocky Horror Show on tour with Meatloaf.  She also appeared Off-Broadway in Bingo!.

Walton originated the role of Franklin Shepard in the original Broadway production of Merrily We Roll Along.  His other Broadway credits include the recent revival of The Music Man, Sweeney Todd, Stardust, Perfectly Frank, and 42nd Street.  Off-Broadway credits include And the World Goes 'Round and Closer Than Ever.
