Cutting his run short opposite Marissa Jaret Winokur in Hairspray at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, Matt Morrison will fly to Vancouver to begin filming the TV movie "Once Upon A Mattress" playing the role of Sir Harry. Also slated for "Mattress" are Carol Burnett, Dennis O'Hare, Tracy Ullman and Zooey Deschanel. The ABC TV Movie will be directed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. Morrison's last performance in Hairspray will be on Tuesday, August 17th.

"I'm sad to be leaving Hairspray," Matt told BroadwayWorld.com, "The LA cast is awesome and it's been a blast. I'm going to miss Marissa the most."

Once Upon a Mattress originally starred Carol Burnett (as Princess Winnifred in her Broadway debut) and features a score by Mary Rodgers and Marshall Barer and a book by Barer, Jay Thompson and Dean Fuller.

Morrison is excited about being involved in the new generation of movie musicals, "I am really looking forward to working with a legend such as Carol Burnett and my stage idol, Denis O'Hare."

With the timing of "Mattress" Matt Morrison will be leaving two of his leading ladies of Broadway with other suitors.

Morrison was set to play opposite Kerry Butler (pictured at right) in "The Opposite of Sex" which will have its out of town run in San Francisco beginning September 25th.
