Margaret Thatcher Projects to Close Nan Swid's IN FORMATION this Weekend

By:

Margaret Thatcher Projects hopes that you can join them for the final week of In Formation, the gallery's first solo presentation of works by artist Nan Swid. Swid's recent explorations of rectilinear forms primarily executed in encaustic or polymer paint over specifically chosen substrates, antique books, legal ledgers or time worn utilitarian boxes all support the artist's discourse in color, surface and structure. This is not an art based entirely on formalism. Creating rich tactile surfaces over familiar or recognizable supports the artist creates works that generate an enigmatic state, a place of visual privacy where painting, sculpture and collage intersect in the most dynamic way.

Nan Swid lives and works in New York City. Her work has been shown nationally in galleries including Pavel Zoubok Gallery (New York, NY), Adam Baumgold Gallery (New York, NY), and Arevelo Gallery (Miami, FL). Swid's work has been reviewed in publications such as The New York Times, The Daily Beast, and Dossier Journal. While working in the studio Nan Swid was also a principal founder of Swid Powell, the iconic firm that collaborated with noted architects such as Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Robert A. M. Stern to produce decorative objects of the highest order. Archives from this endeavor are currently housed with The Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut.
