March Performances Announced At Merkin Hall

March at Kaufman Music Center spotlights an exciting array of emerging artists. Two performers beyond category - vocalist/composer/performance artist Holland Andrews and composer/multi-instrumentalist/interdisciplinary artist Darian Donovan Thomas - collaborate for the first time thanks to Ecstatic Music (Thursday, March 31).

Also on the rise: Merz Trio, First Prize winners of the 2021 Naumburg International Chamber Music Competition, take the stage at Merkin Hall in a Music Speaks program ranging from Carlo Gesualdo to Jeffrey Mumford, with stops for Alma Mahler, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, and others along the way (Tuesday, March 1).

Pianist Anthony de Mare's LIAISONS project, devoted to reimagining Stephen Sondheim's music for the piano, returns to Merkin Hall with special poignancy on Saturday, March 26. His program includes premieres by Conrad Tao, Christopher Cerrone, Paola Prestini, Jeff Beal, Marc Schubring, and Kevin Puts.

The charismatic duo of violinist Charles Yang and pianist Peter Dugan take the stage at Merkin Hall in a lively and eclectic program on Tuesday, March 29, rescheduled from February 5.

Rob Kapilow's What Makes It Great? enlists the Harlem Quartet in an exploration of Mozart's famous "Dissonance" quartet, Monday, March 7. And the New York Festival of Song casts a wide net with Love Songs in 176 Keys - 4 hands, 4 voices, 4 countries, with performances by Caramoor's 2022 Vocal Rising Stars (Tuesday, March 15).

And the Fast Forward series provides opportunities for rising star performers from Kaufman Music Center's Special Music School and Lucy Moses School, with a Contemporary Festival on Sunday, March 6 and the annual Henry Schneider Concert, featuring performers of all ages, on Tuesday, March 8.

Meanwhile, the renewed Musical Storefronts series provides a continuing treat for New Yorkers, plus welcome gigs for musicians at a time when many performances have been postponed. The concerts take place in a storefront-turned-performance venue on the corner of Broadway and W. 62nd St. in Manhattan. Visit https://www.kaufmanmusiccenter.org/musicalstorefronts/series/ for the latest schedule.

Except for Musical Storefronts, all performances take place in Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Hall, and are listed in Eastern time. Information on Kaufman Music Center's COVID-19 policies can be found here.
