Magloire's New Chamber Ballet To Play To MOZART, 4/7-8

Choreographer Miro Magloire presents his New Chamber Ballet in the world premiere of a work to Mozart, joined by repertory ballets to music by Ryan Brown, Friedrich Cerha, and Luciano Berio, April 7 & 8, 8 PM, at City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56th Street.

The activities of choreographer Magloire and New Chamber Ballet continue to expand each year. During the month of March, Magloire will stage an evening of Baroque music, featuring Monteverdi madrigals and Francesco Provenzale's opera Dialoghi Per La Passione for the University of Delaware/Newark's Department of Music. Director for the presentation is Isai Jess Munoz. Following the performances in the Company's home base of City Center Studios, the full ensemble will appear at the inaugural Brooklyn Bridge Dance Festival at the GK Arts Center in Brooklyn, sharing the programs with Trainor Dance, the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet, and Christopher Caines Dance. Summer activities include a performance at the Omaha Under The Radar Festival in Nebraska, July 8th. New Chamber Ballet is also preparing a full evening of dances to music by late German-American composer Ursula Mamlok, for fall performances in NYC and Germany.

For the April 7 & 8 City Center Studio 5 performances, Magloire will premiere a new trio to Mozart's Sonata for violin and piano in C major, K. 296, commissioned by Ed Petrou in memory of Rachel Petrou.

The Company will repeat Sunrise, which premiered last February. Set to piano solo by composer Ryan Brown, critic Mary Cargill referred to the ballet's title when she described the quartet as "a vivid impression of a daily miracle that most people sleep through." (danceviewtimes, Feb. 11, 2017)

Philip Gardner commented on Magloire's "choreography (which) has been daring in its exploration of female partnering," following the premiere of Gravity. Gardner also added "a salute to violinist Doori Na for his impressive rendering of 'Six Pieces for Violin' by Friedrich Cerha, the venerable Austrian composer." (oberon'sgrove, November 2015). Cerha will be remembered for his own works and also as the composer who completed the opera Lulu ?upon the death of composer Alban Berg.

Leise, Leise ?(which translates to "Softly, Softly" in German) is a dramatic family portrait for three women, "straight out of Anton Chekov," according to Michael Popkin (danceviewtimes, Feb 2012). The ballet is set to piano etudes by Luciano Berio. Like Cerha, Berio is also known as a composer who finished an opera uncompleted by the death of the composer; in Berio's case, the opera was Turnadot by Puccini.
