MGM Developing 'Valley Girl' Musical

MGM has started developing a musical remake of the 1983 comedy "Valley Girl".

According to Variety the musical will utilize the "Romeo and Juliet" story of the original "Valley Girl" and use classic '80s songs. 

Sean Bailey is set to produce through his company, Idealogy Inc.  Bailey most recently produced "Gone Baby Gone" and is developing a "Tron" sequel, "Sabbatical" and "Hexum and "Liberty" for Disney. He also produced "Project Greenlight," which aired on HBO. 

Valley Girl is a 1983 romantic comedy movie, starring Nicolas Cage, Deborah Foreman, E.G. Daily, Cameron Dye and Joyce Hyser. The movie was the directorial debut of Martha Coolidge. The film score also features the August 1982 song "I Melt With You" sung by the original artists, new wave band Modern English and "The Fanatic" by Felony.
