MCC THEATER today announced that the New York premiere of The Wooden Breeks by Glen Berger, directed by Trip Cullman, will now open one week later on Tuesday, February 21, 7pm at the Lucille Lortel (121 Christopher Street) in order to implement further artistic changes. Preview performances of The Wooden Breeks officially began on Friday, February 3 (the original Opening Night date was scheduled for February 15.)

A comic tale set in the fantastical, miserable hamlet of Brood, The Wooden Breeks conjures up a marvelously imaginative world peopled by a large cast of dreamers, schemers, and various sets of would-be lovers. Tormented by the memory of a beautiful young woman he adored and lost, and saddled with the bastard child left behind as a painful reminder of their doomed romance, a village tinker-turned-poet tries to ease his pain by conjuring up a hilarious and theatrical tale for the young boy as they sit in front of the dying embers of their hearth.

The cast of The Wooden Breeks features Louis Cancelmi (Vincent in Brixton), Veanne Cox (MCC's Last Easter; Caroline, or Change), Maria Dizzia (Apparition), Jaymie Dornan (The Notorious Bettie Page), Ron Cephas Jones (Our Lady of 121st Street), Steve Mellor (Big River), Ana Reeder (Small Tragedy), Adam Rothenberg (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea) and T. Ryder Smith (Thom Pain: Based on Nothing).

The Wooden Breeks features set design by Beowulf Borritt; costume design by Anita Yavich; lighting design by Paul Whitaker and sound design by Fitz Patton.

MCC began its 20th anniversary 3-play mainstage season at the Lucille Lortel Theatre with Laura Wade's Colder Than Here starring Judith Light, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson and Brian Murray. Following The Wooden Breeks, MCC will reunite Fat Pig playwright Neil LaBute and director Jo Bonney on the US Premiere of Some Girl(s), May 17-June 24, opening June 8. This staging will mark the fourth LaBute work produced by MCC following The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here and Fat Pig. MCC also produced a one-night benefit evening of LaBute one-act plays, Autobahn.
