The hit London play Coram Boy, which Helen Edmundson adapted from the novel by Jamila Gavin, is headed for Broadway.

Produced by Boyett Ostar (The History Boys), Coram Boy is tentatively slated to open on May 1st, 2007 after beginning rehearsals either on or around April 10th, according a casting noticed.  Rehearsals are set to begin on February 19th.

The play, which is set between 1742 and 1780, "moves between the majestic interior of Gloucester Cathedral, an elegant country house, a London orphanage, and a slave ship on the Thames," states the notice.  It concerns two orphans--one who was saved from an African slave ship and one who is the abandoned son of the heir to a great estate.  Coram Boy will be directed by Melly Still, with music by Adrian Sutton

Coram Boy, which was previously a hit for The National Theatre, will return there on November 29th and play through January 20th, 2007.
