According to Variety, Lionsgate recently acquired the rights to the Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart drama Rabbit Hole. The movie is set to premiere in theaters in December.

"It's one of those films where all the intangibles came together," said Jason Constantine. "In December and January, we didn't have a film in that part of our release schedule, so it was really an opportunity for us to have a great film, and we are honored to be releasing it."

The film stars Nicole Kidman, Diane Wiest, Aaron Eckhart, Tammy Blanchard, and Sandra Oh. The film was adapted by Lindsay-Abaire and directed by John Cameron Mitchell. In Rabbit Hole, Howie (Aaron Eckhart) and Becca Corbett (Nicole Kidman) are a happily married couple whose perfect world is forever changed when their young son is taken from them in a tragic car accident. As Becca redefines her place among friends and family, she finds solace in a mysterious relationship with the young driver (Miles Teller) of the car that killed her son.

Rabbit Hole was originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory and first presented at its Pacific Playwrights Festival reading series in 2005. It received its first full production in New York in 2006. It has also been produced by regional theatres in cities such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Cynthia Nixon won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her performance as Becca in the New York production, and the play was nominated for several other Tony awards.
