The Legacy Continues...KWANZAA 2010! A vibrant cultural festival of African and African-American music, dance and crafts that commemorates the seven principles of Kwanzaa at the American Museum of Natural History, The Legacy Continues...KWANZAA 2010! is a feast for the soul and senses. Celebration highlights include performances by:
· Kotchegna Dance Company, which will showcase dances and drum performances that feature magnificent masks, acrobatic feats, and stilts; and Gestures Dance Ensemble, a modern dance company.· Gospel band from the McCollough Invaders of the United House of Prayer for All People, which will touch hearts using the power of spirit and music.· Restoration Dance Theatre Company, under the artistic direction of Karen Thornton-Daniels, will perform traditional African dance and drumming.· The dancers of the Allen Liturgical Dance Ministry of the Greater Allen Cathedral.The bustling Kwanzaa Marketplace, located in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, will feature vendors, visual artists, and craftspeople. In addition, special Kwanzaa foods will be available in the Museum Food Court. The Legacy Continues....KWANZAA 2010! is co-produced by Community Works, an arts and education nonprofit organization, and New Heritage Theatre Group, the oldest nonprofit black theater company in New York. The marketplace is organized by the Harlem Arts Alliance.
