Kris Stewart, Exec. Dir. of NYMF, Resigns

By: Jan. 04, 2008

Kris Stewart, co-founder of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, announced his resignation from the position of Executive Director on January 2, 2008.

In a private industry email, Stewart explains: "NYMF has been an amazing experience and has grown into something much more than I could have imagined…It's been an amazing, exhilarating time, and I feel that I've personally gained an incredible amount from it. But my nature is to be someone that enjoys change and enjoys launching new projects, and I've been restless to try other things."

Stewart also explained that co-founding partner, Isaac Robert Hurwitz, "will do a great job of running NYMF in the future," as NYMF is reportedly in a strong financial and artistic position.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival is the enormously popular three-week celebration that features the works of the newest generation of musical theatre writers.  One of the fastest-growing theatre festivals in the country today, the New York Musical Theatre Festival has, in four short years, presented a total of 133 new musicals, many of which have gone on to subsequent productions at Off-Broadway and regional theatres around the country.

Some successes which grew from the NYMF festival include the long-running off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz, the cult fan-favorite musical [title of show], plus The Big Voice: God or Merman, Captain Louie, The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Gutenberg! The Musical, Shout! the Mod Musical.

Submissions for the NYMF 2008 are already being accepted.  The fifth annual festival is slated to run September 15 – October 5, 2008. For more information visit www.nymf.org.
